A new Pig Disease Department of the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, equipped with BMT devices, started its operation in Brno on 8 October, 2010. The Department will provide hundreds of students of the University faculties with a top educational facility. Research and science workers will benefit from the state-of-the-art devices ranking the Department among the best equipped worksites not only in Europe, but also in a world-wide scale. One of the Department parts has been designed specifically for cooperation in human medicine research projects. The construction of the Department was started in February 2009 and finished in September 2010. The overall project cost including the internal equipment and technologies reached CZK 146,946,000.
In the past 20 years, the University has started great renovations of all animal departments located in the University premises. The new building of the Pig Disease Department is the last project crowning successfully the construction of modern both educational and clinical facilities. Thanks to the grant from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno can now show off five departments belonging to the top world veterinary departments when assessing the level of the veterinary care provided, the modern facility and technological equipment.
The ground floor is used for pig housing and pig breeding education. You can find examination rooms, autopsy rooms and area for animal housing there. On the ground floor, there is also an experimental scientific and research facility including an up-to-date equipped operating theatre and sterilization facility that are used for development of new technologies and procedures for human medicine. On the first floor, there are laboratories with steam and hot air sterilizers and heat technology by BMT. You can also find there a library, lecture halls and facilities for academic and scientific workers. The second floor is of technical nature.
The research part and the top technological equipment are the main advantages of the Department. This will allow the faculty to enlarge and increase much more the actual cooperation in both veterinary and human medicine research projects, and to continue the development of joint research activities with the Czech Academy of Sciences and other institutions.
