This year, we managed to build or modernize nearly sixty sterilization workplaces in the Czech Republic within the scope of the REACT EU program. One of them is also the new model workplace of central sterilization in the Pardubice Hospital, which boldly competes by its size and equipment with the newly implemented central sterilization (CS) units in teaching hospitals.
Since 2015, the Pardubice Hospital belongs to the Pardubická krajská nemocnice, a.s., which was created by the merger of the Chrudim, Litomyšl, Ústí nad Orlicí, Svitavy and Pardubice hospitals. By the way, in all these hospitals we are represented by our sterilization technology, and all five workplaces have a certified quality system according to the ČSN EN ISO 13485:2016 standard for the sterilization of medical devices.
Pardubická krajská nemocnice, a.s. created by combination of five hospitals, thus has more than two thousand standard beds and 175 beds for intensive and resuscitation care. Annually, it treats more than 1 million of patients, hospitalizes almost 80 thousand people and performs around 30 thousand surgeries. It thus ranks among ten largest hospitals in the Czech Republic in terms of size.
After several years of thorough preparations and with the support of the REACT EU subsidy program, a new surgical department pavilion with urgent admission was created in the Pardubice Hospital. This eight-story building, unique by Czech standards, will bring a number of innovations to the hospital. The most fundamental one is the creation of a new emergency medicine department together with the first own central sterilization and eleven new operating theatres.
Under the roof with a heliport, there will be a complex of ambulances and examination rooms, which have available imaging methods of examination such as X-ray, ultrasound and CT for orthopaedics, neurosurgery, angiography, traumatology, surgery, vascular surgery, ARU and ICU. Everything will be connected by a pipe mail system.
The emergency department represents a kind of patient's entrance gate to the hospital and is a place where, based on the nature of the disease and its severity, decisions are made about the method and procedure of treatment without the patient having to travel across the hospital campus to individual specialists.
Our task as the main supplier was to deliver five steam sterilizers (BMT), seven automatic washer disinfectors (Miele), including the third automatic dosing system in the Czech Republic (Dr. Weigert) and a water treatment plant (Aquaosmotic) worth over CZK 30 million.
The newly established reference workplace is also significant for its activity in the professional field, namely at the international level. This year, the hospital started work on a clinical study of pancreatic cancer diagnostics in cooperation with the Masaryk Institute of Oncology. This is a method that was published by the top world journal Nature Communication and for which the University of Pardubice holds two patents. These are the discoveries of a team of analytical chemists from the Faculty of Chemical Technology.
